According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations honey bees are useful even after they die. Beekeepers have used dead bees for treating and curing diseases for thousands of years, and Chinese populations have used dead bees for thousands of years to treat many ailments. Recently, scientists discovered chitin in bee skin. Chitin is also used to produce chitosan, a highly biocompatible polymer which has found a wide range of applications in the biomedical industry. However, it is not only chitin that makes dead bees such a powerful remedy but also many other compounds like bee venom and some enzymes contained in the bee’s body.
